10 Tips for Easy Travel by CheapOair

September 3rd, 2010 by admin

1. Important Documents Make sure that you carry all important documents on your person, or in your handbag, or carry-on bag, like your passport, driver’s license, ID card, Student ID, Visa, any and all important documents. As an additional safety measure, we suggest you make copies of all of your important documents and put them in a separate place in case you lose it; doing this will make it much easier to replace.

2. Carrying Cash Be extra careful while carrying cash. Frequent travelers suggest separating your cash in case your wallet is lost or stolen. Every time you reach into your wallet to pay for something, onlookers could be viewing the contents. Consider folding each bill individually, instead of carrying a big money roll. One of the best things to do is to carry your credit cards in your wallet, even if you lose your wallet, replacing credit cards is much easier than replacing lost or stolen cash, which is impossible. Also, the advantage of carrying credit cards is is that you can avoid currency exchange issues.

3. Bringing Valuables When travelling, all you need to carry are your documents and the bare essentials for your trip. You don’t need to carry your valuables and run the risk of losing them. Valuables can make you more susceptible to theft. As the adage goes, “Out of sight, out of mind”. You won’t miss them, not really, and when you get home, they will be there waiting for you.

4. Check and Double Check Make sure that you have checked with the airlines regarding the departure of your flights. Schedules are subject to change, so call the airlines or log online to find out if your plane is on time or delayed. Though most travel agencies and airlines will have the answer, being proactive means you’ll get the quickest and most accurate response.

5. Booking an All Inclusive Package Travelers new to travel might want to consider an all-inclusive package. All-inclusive vacations include most of the things required when making piece meal travel arrangements, such as flights, hotels, meals and airport transportation to and from the hotel. This would ensure that all your travel requirements are all taken care of and all you need to do is relax and unwind on your holiday.

Once you have experience travelling, create your own packages and design you own customized vacations.

6. Check in Ahead of Time With various airlines the process of check-in can be time consuming. To save time, log onto the airline website or OTA, like CheapOair, you booked your flight with, enter in your confirmation number and print your boarding pass. To avoid possible delays, and if you’re traveling with a group of people, arriving at the airport early will help minimize stress.

7. Book Flights into Smaller Airports A common myth is that departing from a larger airport is the better option. However, the fact is that smaller airports are easier to move through and, more often than not, offer a better experience. Booked airline tickets into smaller airports can also save you some extra money. Larger airports offer diversified flight options and other conveniences, but that luxury might be paired with additional problems you can avoid. Let’s not forget about the savings on flights!

8. Leave Time for Connections Always be smart and plan well, especially if you have connecting flights. The best is to go for a non-stop flight, but in case you need to book connecting flights, we suggest you give yourself ample time in between connections.

9. Call Ahead About your Hotel Reservations Always call the hotel directly, in advance of checking-in, to confirm your hotel booking. Confirm the room you booked and any special requests you’ve made are in place. Normally a time frame of two days prior to check-in is sensible. You don’t want to end up in a situation where you are stranded with all your baggage and no place to stay.

10. Essentials

Carry your itinerary and keep a copy with your luggage – This will alert baggage officials to your travel plans in case you lose your luggage. Alternatively, have a copy handy in case you misplace them. Bring a local map – In case you are travelling to a totally unknown place, carry a copy of the map. Local Language: Knowing the basics of the local language in the destination you’re visiting. It comes in handy while asking for directions, help and especially in case you need to go to the restroom.

Even though you might spend hours researching and planning a trip and doing your “due diligence”, things still might go wrong. Delays, lost luggage, and mishaps all are part and parcel of travel. The best thing you can do is to expect the unexpected. Take a deep breath, laugh about it and promise yourself that you will have fun and relax, and that you won’t let anything stop you from having a fabulous vacation.

17 Tips to Sell Travel on Ebay

September 3rd, 2010 by admin

Becoming a seller on ebay can be daunting. Becoming a travel seller can be impossible, unless you know the secrets. My tips on selling on eBay can apply to all categories of items, but some steps are unique to selling travel.

The travel industry is highly regulated on EBay, as it should be. High standards keep out disreputable sellers and scam artists, and adds to your own company’s trustworthiness when you are approved by eBay..

1. Before you are even thinking about selling travel on eBay, it is important to get a username and email address just for eBay. Registration is free and only takes a few minutes. Register as a seller and you can use the same username to buy as well. Choose a name that reflects what you sell i.e., “Bermudabound” rather than “sexyblueeyes”. Other eBay members will come to recognize you by your User ID, so it’s a good idea to choose one you’ll want to use for the long term.

2. Your eBay name has sunglasses (i.e., read “shady character”) for the first 30 days, so don’t try to sell anything while you are wearing shades. Use this time to buy on eBay and learn good practices from other sellers.

3. Set up a PayPal account. EBay buyers feel more confident purchasing something from a seller who accepts PayPal. According to PayPal, “Listings that offer PayPal are 6% more likely to sell and experience a 5% average increase in final price.” Go to www. Paypal.com. Get a business account. Registration is free.

4. In the first 30 days, buy small items on EBay, pay for them promptly. I have always found eBay sellers to offer good values, provided that you check their feedback listing first.

5. Pay your seller promptly, because then you will always get positive feedback from your seller. Your feedback profile is the most important aspect of your reputation at eBay. Feedback is extremely important on eBay, as your future buyers can evaluate you at a glance. Even one strike against you counts heavily.

6. Create your “About Me” page on eBay. Use this page to tell other eBay users about yourself and your interests, your experience and your products.

7. While you are waiting the 30 days, also become a) ID verified and b)square trade approved. a) Get ID Verified through eBay as an extra sign of security for buyers. When a member gets ID Verified, a third-party company working with eBay confirms the member’s identity by cross checking their contact information across consumer and business databases. You’ll see the ID Verify icon in verified members’ profiles.

B) The Square Trade Seal is one way for sellers to show bidders that they are committed to high selling standards and have had their identity verified by a third party. You will need a credit card and your IATA, ARC, or seller of travel number. Both are requirements for selling travel, and you must place these numbers as the first lines of your ads on EBay. All members listing airline tickets, cruises, vacation packages, or lodging must be participants in the Seller Verify by SquareTrade Program. This program combines verification of sellers with ongoing monitoring. For instructions on this, go to eBay.com.

8. When you are ready to list your items at auction, sell small stuff first, building customers and credibility. Sell all items with no reserve, at the lowest price you can afford to accept, and fill all orders promptly.

9. Choose carefully what you will sell. You cannot sell some travel certificates, or vouchers and all listing must list the exceptions, blackout dates, and extra taxes and shipping charges. Travel agents, and other businesses selling travel services are regulated in eBay. According to the eBay rules for selling travel, “Businesses and individuals who sell and/or arrange air or sea travel or accommodations (but do not directly provide the travel service themselves) may list air and ship related travel items (i.e. airplane tickets and cruise trips), along with accommodations, on eBay only if they are licensed as sellers of travel lawfully able to do business in all 50 states and they themselves will be booking the travel for the winning bidder. Their listings should clearly set out their California seller of travel license number as well as any other license information required in other states. It is against eBay policy for travel clearinghouse affiliates, that are not actual agents booking the travel themselves, to list travel auctions on the site. Sellers are required to include the following disclaimer in all listings for travel exactly as it appears below and in a text size and color that can easily be seen and read by all bidders:

“By listing this auction I verify that I am the actual travel agent or travel provider and not a third party affiliate. The travel/accommodations in this auction will be booked directly through me and not an outside agency. I also verify that, other than the government taxes and related government fees stated within the listing description itself, there will be absolutely no additional fees, charges or after auction purchases associated with booking the travel within this listing.”

For travel services other than air or sea travel, businesses and individuals may offer gift certificates or coupons that are issued by a specific provider of travel, such as a gift certificate to a particular hotel. They may not, however, offer travel club memberships or “choice travel” certificates.”

10. Setting your price

Selecting your starting price requires balancing between how much money you want for the item, and what buyers will pay for it. As part of your pricing strategy, you can research the ending bids for similar items. You can look at similar item completed eBay listings using the completed listings search.

Be sure to include in your price enough to cover your insertion fees, final value fees, and your paypal fees. Set the LOWEST possible price you can afford to accept, but don’t offer something at a price you really don’t want to accept. Buyers expect bargains on ebay purchases, and you may, in the beginning, only get one bid on your item.

Attractively priced items (such as those priced at 99cents) may receive many bids, but unless it is a really outstanding items, the winning bidder may not have bid anything near your cost.

Setting your price involves not only deciding the starting price of your item, but also selecting pricing options based on which selling format you select.

Pricing for the auction-like listings:

The starting price is the lowest price you are willing to sell your item. Bidding will start at this price. Sellers have found that setting the starting price too high may discourage bidding.

If you do not want to sell your item below a certain price, you can specify a reserve price. A reserve price is an option you can use to stimulate bidding on your listing and reserve the right not to sell below the price you want. I do not recommend this option as it discourages buying.

Pricing for fixed price listings: In my experience, this is not a good way to sell anything, since the ebay method is based mainly on auction items. Enter the price at which you wish to sell your item or items as the Buy It Now price.

11. Build a store. EBay stores are free for the first 30 days. Afterwards, they are a small fee per month. ($15.95 / month) According to eBay, Store sellers see on average a 25% incremental increase in sales the 3 months after opening their Store.” Here is where you can list all those other items that are higher priced, but good value at a low listing fee – at Insertion Fees of .03-.10 per month – use good til cancelled

Note: The Insertion Fee covers a single listing (with any quantity of items in the listing), whether you list 1 or 1,000 of the same item. Final Value Fees range from 12.00% of the closing price for cheap items to

Over $1,000.01

12.00% of the initial $25.00 ($3.00), plus 8.00% of the initial $25.01 – $100.00 ($6.00), plus 4.00% of the initial $100.01 – $1,000.00 ($36.00), plus 2.00% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01-closing value)

Auction and Fixed Price listings appear in your eBay Store as well as in eBay Search and Listings. The store allows your buyers to peruse your other items in addition to your auction items. Go to: http://pages.eBay.com/storefronts/openbenefits.html

12. Completing a sale: Remember, your reputation is of utmost importance. If your item sells successfully, the sale needs to be completed. This includes contacting your buyer, accepting payment and shipping the item.

13. I also recommend a “buy it now” listing, using the actual price of your item, i.e, what you really want. Using the “best offer” option allows members to make you a lower offer. Tip: Set a limit on “best offer” minimum bids, or you will get absurd offers of 1 cent or more.

14. Don’t use Listing Upgrades when you are new. Use your own hosting for pictures or eBay Picture Hosting.

15. For free templates for use on ebay, I like http://www.template-o-matic.com/

16. Examples of actions that are not allowed on eBay:

Bidding on your own item, or having family members, roommates or employees bid on your item (called shill bidding). For policy and examples, see Shill Bidding.

Interfering with another member’s transaction.

Accepting payment and sending an item that is significantly different from the item described in the item listing. For policy and examples, see Seller Non-performance.

Refusing to accept a buyer’s PayPal payment using a credit card when the seller included the PayPal logo in the listing.

Charging buyers an additional fee for their use of ordinary forms of payment including acceptance of checks, money orders, electronic transfers or credit cards.

If something goes wrong, including having problems with your buyer, there are options to help with your transaction problems.

17. Some ebay fees:

When you list an item on eBay, you’re charged an Insertion Fee. If the item sells, you are also charged a Final Value Fee. The total cost of selling an item is the Insertion Fee plus the Final Value Fee. The minimum insertion fee is 15 cents and goes to $4.00, depending upon the starting price of the auction. Final Value Fees:

Item not sold No Fee

$0.01 – $25.00**

8.75% of the closing value

$25.01- $1,000.00

8.75% of the initial $25.00 ($2.19), plus 3.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 to $1,000.00)

Equal to or Over $1000.01

8.75% of the initial $25.00 ($2.19), plus 3.50% of the initial $25.01 – $1,000.00 ($34.12), plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($1000.01 – closing value)

Planning Your Off Season Vacation

September 3rd, 2010 by admin

“I just got the best deal on my vacation — I’m going to Costa Rica in July!”

“Ah yes… the height of the rainy season. Be sure to pack your umbrella!”

Even though off-season vacationing may be less expensive, it’s important to figure out why the area isn’t a tourist destination all year long. As in the case of Costa Rica, you may find that some roads are downright impassable during the rainy season — a big downside if you plan to drive through the rainforest. Tourist seasons in other areas may be timed to major festivals or spring break vacationers — making them perfectly hospitable during the off-season. If you can make a compromise between off-season factors and your personal needs, you’ll be able to save tons of money while still enjoying the vacation of your dreams.

Planning Ahead

The key to getting a good deal on an off-season vacation is to plan ahead. First, choose your vacation destination and then do your research to find out when tourism is the slowest. Some areas will have clearly defined tourist seasons, while others experience a steadier flow of visitors. Areas with specific busy seasons are much more likely to give you a good deal on lodging and local activities. As soon as you’ve figured out when the best time to go is, make arrangements to get the time off of work and book your tickets as far in advance as possible.

Weather Conditions

One of the most common reasons that resort areas close down has to do with seasonal weather changes. For example, in the northeastern United States, some hotels close down completely, or are only open for limited amounts of time during the snowy winter months. That said, you may find wintertime suits your needs better than summer if you’re planning to snowshoe through the wilderness. On other hand, if you’re looking for a warmer destination during an off-peak time, you’ll want to consider a destination in the southern states.

Access to Attractions

Aside from weather considerations, some of the tourist attractions that you want to visit may not be open during off-season periods. This may be due to weather conditions or because of the cost of keeping a full-time staff when there are fewer visitors. Look at tourist brochures for the area you’re interested in visiting, or give the facility a call and ask if they will be open when you plan to visit. In some cases, even if they aren’t officially open, they may be willing to book a private tour for you.

Party Time

For many tropical locations like Mexico and the Caribbean, the timing of the tourist season is based primarily on the throngs of young college co-eds flocking south for spring break. Prices will be higher during the months of January through April, and destinations will be more crowded. However, most of these locations are just as lovely during the off-season. Visiting in the fall or early winter can be a great way to save money and have a quieter, more personalized vacation.

Many people choose to take their vacations during off-seasons periods in order to save money. However, it’s important to realize that some of the things you hoped to have on your vacation may not be available during these times. Think carefully about what’s most important to you and plan ahead — you may be able to choose a date that’s less expensive, without compromising on the quality of your vacation.

Luxury Honeymoon

September 2nd, 2010 by admin

If a couple can afford it, a luxury honeymoon vacation is a great way to start married life together. It is nice to feel pampered and well treated while eating the finest foods and taking in spectacular sites. The newlyweds who get to experience a luxury honeymoon vacation will always be glad they had such an experience at the beginning of their married life.

There are many things to do, see and places to go for a luxury honeymoon vacation and they can actually be quite easy to plan. The nice thing about luxury is that it is often a package deal. The couple can pay one price and have an all inclusive vacation. Lodging, dining and activities can be included in the price and the couple will only need extra money for spending and tipping.

One way to plan an all inclusive luxury honeymoon vacation is to book a cruise to a scenic location the couple would like to see and experience. There are luxury cruises all over the world that will prove to be fantastic adventures. The couple can cruise the Caribbean Sea, the Greek Isles, the coastline of Alaska or the islands of the pacific ocean. With some internet research or the help of a travel agent luxury cruise ships can be easily found and the luxury honeymoon vacation booked, paid for, and ready for boarding.

There are many cities in Europe that are known for luxury and romance providing excellent locations for an all inclusive luxury honeymoon vacation. It is often noted that Paris is for lovers and this city will certainly provide all the opulence and passion the honeymooners could possibly want. Italy has such cities as Rome, Venice, Florence, and Naples that would all be wonderful places for a luxury honeymoon vacation.

For people who have less to spend but still want to plan a luxury honeymoon, Mexico might prove to be the right choice. The coastline of Mexico is a very beautiful and romantic. There are many resorts in the Central American country that have worked hard to achieve high ratings and excellent reputations. These large scale resorts can offer all inclusive honeymoons that will truly be memorable. There are resorts on both the west and east coast of the country and the couple may want to plan a stay at more than one resort to get the full flavor of the country.

The Melia Panama Canal

September 2nd, 2010 by admin

Many tourists who visit Panama include a sightseeing trip to Colon, Panama and stay at the Melia Panama Canal hotel to witness one of the wonders of the world, the Panama Canal. Many hotels in Panama provide a Panama Canal tour and it is something you should see. The Panama Canal is one of the engineering marvels of our world. Cruise lines, as wellm offer Panama Canal cruises.

Shopping in Panama is another bonus in this Free Trade Zone certainly because of the low taxes, and the lowest prices in North and South America, because of its location. Most people include a tour to the Panama Canal when staying at different Panama locations. If you want to stay a night or more, there are hotels in Colon which you might want to consider.

There are several hotels Colon Panama for you to consider for your vacation. One of the resorts in Colon you might wish to look at is the Melia Panama Canal. On Gatun Lake, an hour and 20 minutes from Panama International Airport, 10 minutes from the city of Colon, the Melia Panama Canal is an eco-tourist destination, surrounded by tropical vegetation, nature paths where you can hike and explore the tropical flora of Panama. For bird lovers, it’s a wonderful location for bird watchers. You can hike along the banks of the Panama Canal, take an airplane over Gatun Lake. Small boats and canoes are available for hotel guests to take on Lake Gatun. The view of Lake Gatun is superb and peaceful except for the sounds of the birds.

The Melia Panama Canal Resort was first built as a hospital for injured victims of Second World War. After that, it became a military school, ‘Las escuela de las Americas ‘. In the 1990s, it was made into the Melia Panama Canal resort. There are 285 rooms, 2 large pools, and a pool for kids, a tennis court, a business center, a games room and babysitting for the kids if you need it. The resort itself is surrounded by tropical gardensand a superb view of Lake Gatun. It is an older hotel, so you cannot judge it by North American standards. The accommodation is 3 star, the location, 5 star, the swimming pools, 5 star. This is a hotel must should be chosen for its location, a great escape for those seeking ecotourism in Panama and wanting to visit the Panama Canal.

The Melia Panama Canal has great prices and all inclusive resort package deals. You can just stay here for a night or two if you want. Some travel companies such as Nolitours sell all inclusive resort packages for the Melia Panama. What I would recommend for people seeking a hotel in Panama, is to decide what kind of holiday you want first of all. This is an ecotourist resort, close to the Panama Canal and free trade zone shopping which is a 10 minute drive in distance by car. You can witness Spanish history in the nearby towns of Portobelo and San Lorenzo and to visit their colonial fortresses. The reception desk will provide information regarding organized tours.

The all inclusive packages from Nolitours cost from $1,115 to $1,655 for one week. Included in the price are three meals a day, drinks (beer and cocktails – some international brands), a kids club, daily activities, nightly entertainment, 1 buffet and one a la carte restaurant, a snack bar, two bars, a casino, and a disco. Your rooms are spacious, clean and come with all the modern amenities guests want. Non motorized sports are included with the package price. For extra charges, deep sea fishing, fishing, horseback riding and bicycle rentals are available. Evening entertainment includes Panamanian food, Panamanian music and dance whie you experience some of the indigenous culture. Shuttle service to the Free Trade Zone is available at the hotel. Bird watching and hiking are great in this ecotourist resort for the nature lovers seeking this type of vacation. The staff is friendly and helpful. The Melia Panama Canal prices are reasonable.

If you are looking for a relaxing, laid back vacation escape in Panama, near the Panama Canal, in natural surroundings for a reasonable price, try the Melia Panama Canal.

Travel Tricks That Save You Money

September 2nd, 2010 by admin

HOTELS…

– Call hotels at 4PM on Sunday to reserve a room for anytime within the next 2 to 3 weeks. You’ll have a better chance of getting a low rate from a front desk clerk who understands that an unsold room is revenue the hotel will never recover. Don’t call the hotel’s 800 number – you’re likely to be put thru to a national reservation line. Look up the hotel’s number in the city you plan to visit.

– Request weekend rates. At some hotels, weekend rates are 1/3 of regular rates. If you’re staying through the week, ask that the cheaper weekend rates be extended. Make sure the room rate reflects hidden charges, such as resort fees, as well as taxes.

– Consider alternative lodging. Many hostels have gone upscale and offer private rooms for $25 to $160 a night. For information, contact Hostelling International USA (301-495-1240).

– Go back to school! More than 70% of colleges rent dorm rooms at reasonable prices throughout popular vacation periods.

RENTAL CARS…

– Call the local rental location. If you use the toll-free number to make a reservation, you may not get the lowest rate or the best car. Local operators can price cars to reduce a temporary surplus.

– Avoid renting at airport lots. They can be substantially mor expensive than in-city ones

– Rent on Sunday. There’s a good chance cars will be available because customers requested them for the weekend but never showed up to claim them.

CRUISES…

– Book a cruise at the last minute. Many routes have more berths than passengers. Some travel agents and consolidators offer great last-minute packages.

Warning – Cruise lines now charge for extras that used to be included, such as some onboard recreational activities. Make sure you understand what’s included and what’s not!

AIRFARE…

– Be flexible. When calling airlines, don’t provide travel dates to reservation agents upfront. Instead, ask the agent to punch into the computer every fare for the itinerary you want within a range of dates. Ask for the cheapest fares first. If you’re flexible, you may be able to cut ticket costs drastically.

– But tickets after midnight on Tuesday in the time zone where the airline is located. Typically, airlines start fare sales late Friday, and competing airlines match the lower fares. All the matching usually stops by Monday. Airlines usually give customers who book low fares 24 hours in which to buy them.
